Happy Holidays!

I apologize for not posting on Friday as our internet here at school was down most of the day.  Here is a quick update for this week.

Math:  The students will be continuing unit 5.  They will not be testing on this unit until after the break.
There will not be a fact log going home for the break.  However, please help your child by finding everyday examples to be using math. Ex. counting money, elapsed time etc.

Language Arts:  This week we are looking at the different structural elements of drama.  We will be using this and practicing fluency by doing some holiday themed reader's theatre plays.  There will not be a reading log sent home, however, keeping up with the reading each day routine is greatly encouraged!  This week's reading log is due THURSDAY!

Bowling:  We will be going on our bowling field trip on Friday.  Our plan is to leave the school at 10:40am and return before a late lunch at 12:20pm.  Parents are invited to attend but must meet us at the bowling alley (Great River Bowl in Sartell).
*Students are NOT allowed to bring any extra money on this trip*

Our class will be visiting the Toys for Tots school store tomorrow.  They may bring money if they wish to purchase any gifts.  All of the money raised at this store goes to Toys for Tots!

There is no school from December 23rd through January 1st.  School begins again on Thursday, January 2, 2014.

I hope everyone has a wonderful winter/holiday break!  Stay warm and cherish the great time you get to spend with your friends and families.

Happy Friday!

We had another great week!  We had a lot of fun learning about and making electric circuits in science today!  I was so impressed with the wonderful teamwork I saw happening.  We also took time to write scientific sentences about our predictions, observations and inferences.

Today the class had fun learning about similes and how authors use them in their writing. They practiced this skill by writing stories of their choice which needed to appropriately include at least 3 similes.  Have your student share with you some of the similes they thought of.

Next week in Language Arts, we will be focusing on using text evidence to help us draw conclusions.  We will be practicing looking closer into the text to find specific details.  We will also be using this skill to write an informational paragraph using the information we find.

I have been meeting individually with students to see if they are reading to increase their reading levels. I have been so impressed by the improvements our readers are making.  I absolutely love seeing the pride in their faces when they actually get to see and feel their hard work and practice paying off:)

They took their math test today and will be starting a new unit next week.

New reading and fact logs went home today and will be due next Friday.

We will be taking a fourth grade field trip to the bowling all on Friday, December 20th.  Permission slips went home today.

Have a great weekend/week and stay warm!

Electric Circuits!
