Hurray for Sunshine!

You can tell the weather is getting nicer and warmer.  I know I am sure enjoying the sunshine! Hopefully everyone is getting the chance to enjoy some time outside.

Report cards will be coming home on MONDAY.  Please sign the envelope and send it back to school so that we may reuse it for third trimester.  If you have any questions about your child's report card, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Here is what next week looks like...

Reading:  We are wrapping up Greek Mythology and will be beginning a new lesson.  The main focuses for this lesson are persuasion and making inferences.  We will also be getting into the computer lab to start practicing for the MCAs.
New reading logs went home today and are due next Friday.

Writing:  This week they will be writing opinion paragraphs.  They will follow the proper opinion writing structure to tell their audience about their favorite character from Mythology.  These should be graded and sent home by Friday.
In the spirit of the Irish, we took time this week to write Limericks.  This was a lot of fun and I continue to be amazed with their creativity:)  I included a picture of their Limerick display in our hallway.

Math:  They will be continuing Unit 9 on fractions.

Science:  They are currently working on the Human Body Unit with Mrs. Lund.

Other:

Please check in with your child on how they are progressing toward their 4th grade reading goal.  The goal is to have 30 books completed as well as completing their genre sheet.

Book orders are due Thursday, March 20th.

Next Friday is a 2 hour late start.  It is also BEACH DAY!

Have a great week!

March 10-14

Well, at least it wasn't another snow day right?  We had a great day even though our outside plans needed to be changed due to weather.  The students who reached their 2nd trimester reading reward enjoyed ice cream sundaes and then had some fun indoor activities to choose from.

Reminder from the music teacher:

4th Grade will be presenting a music concert on Tuesday, April 1st at 6:00pm in the gym at Pleasantview Elementary. Students should arrive at 5:45pm to get ready for the program. Please wear your “best school clothes” for the performance.

Here is what next week is looking like..

Reading:  We will be continuing our Greek Mythology Unit.  The students are doing a great job applying all of their literature skills while reading different myths.  We will wrap up this unit next week.  Please take note of the 'Important Dates' sidebar for MCA dates.  This is coming quickly!

New reading logs went home today and are due next Friday, the 14th.

In writing, we will be starting to write opinion paragraphs in relation to the characters in mythology.  Other skills that will be addressed include homophones, prepositions and suffixes.

Math:  They will be continuing Unit 9 on fractions.  Thank you for taking the time to check and sign your student's homework every night.  This is the home stretch for getting those basic facts down before MCA's!

Reminder..  All 4th grade classrooms have an orange word study 'at-home' practice sheet that is due, signed, every Monday.  Please be sure your student is practicing their words at home and is well prepared for the test on Mondays.

Let me know if you have any questions!  Have a wonderful week:)
